We are pleased to announce that Exchange Tower has officially met its goal of achieving LEED® EB:OM Gold Certification.
This is a great accomplishment and we would like to thank our Tenants and their employees for all of their efforts throughout this process.
This initiative was structured by a multi-phase process that began in 2009 just as the Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC) was launching the official program. This process involved conducting an initial screening, performing an in-depth analysis, developing compliance and implementation strategies, completing a performance period to substantiate compliance and lastly, awaiting the results from a thorough evaluation conducted by the CaGBC.
Along with being a LEED® EB:OM Gold building, we have adopted numerous industry-leading environmental policies and program in which we are truly excited about. For example:
- A new Smart Commute Alternative Transportation Program to provide building occupants with more tools and information about sustainable commuting options
- Enhanced Green Cleaning and Solid Waste Management policies and programs
- New internal Sustainable Purchasing policies to track sustainable foods and low mercury lamps
- Enhanced Indoor Air Quality policies and procedures to further improve health and well-being of the occupants
Further to the addition of the new programs and policies, we believe this prestigious certification will greatly complement Brookfield’s existing suite of environmental and sustainability initiatives including Project Blue waste management and it will serve as the focal point of Brookfield’s Sustainable Strategies for a Greener Tomorrow™ program.
Again, we would like to thank our Tenants for all of their efforts to date and their continued support as we look to maintain our certification status going forward. Together, we have made our building a safer and healthier place for all occupants while reducing our impact to the natural environment.
