Brookfield Office Properties has long been an advocate for sustainable building performance and is proud of the green building practices across the Canadian portfolio. To underscore this commitment, we have been working towards LEED Certification (Existing Buildings: Operations & Maintenance) at
Brookfield Place.
We are pleased to inform you that Brookfield Place has successfully completed its Performance Period as part of the LEED EB:OM certification process. Our team has submitted the documentation package for review by the Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC) and fully anticipates achieving the target certification level of
Gold by Q4, 2011.
We would like to thank you and your employees for all of your efforts and continued support as we look to maintain our certification status going forward.
Some of the certification highlights and new Green Amenities at the property include:
- Smart Commute Alternative Transportation Program: Based on a survey conducted last fall, over 90% of the building’s occupants take alternative modes of transportation, which significantly contributed towards our LEED EB:OM certification. Look for new alternative transportation initiatives including a new online Carpool Zone launched in February, 2011.
- Energy Performance: The property currently ranks in the 83rd percentile among buildings with similar characteristics based on the U.S. EPA’s Energy Star guidelines.
- E-Waste Diversion Performance: The property collected over 4 tons of electronic waste including old computers, cell phones and batteries during its Performance Period and E-Waste lobby event held on October 21, 2010.
- Green Cleaning Performance: The property has enhanced its Green Cleaning policies and procedures. A third-party cleaning audit was conducted which resulted in the property earning extra credit for exemplary performance.
In addition, we kindly ask for your continued support in the following areas:
- Water Conservation: Avoid using excess water in the kitchens and washrooms. Report any problems with sinks, faucets or toilets on your floor.
- Energy Conservation: Conserve energy by asking employees to turn off computers, desk lights and all Tenant-controlled lighting at the end of the day.
- Recycling: Make recycling second nature by separating all paper, plastic, cans and bottles, and organics in their appropriate bins.
- Smoking: Sustain a smoke-free environment by not smoking near doorways, windows, or air intakes. Keep our building’s air clean by staying 7.5 meters (25 feet) away from all openings.
- Green Cleaning: Reduce the risk of mould build-up on indoor plants in your spaces. Perform routine inspections and care for them on an ongoing basis.
