First Canadian Place

100 King Street West, Toronto, Ontario
Brookfield Office Properties has long been an advocate for sustainable building performance and is proud of the green building practices across the Canadian portfolio. To underscore this commitment, we have been working towards LEED Certification (Existing Buildings: Operations & Maintenance) at First Canadian Place.

We are pleased to announce that we have completed all of the preliminary certification phases, with the final phase, a three month Performance Period commencing March 1, 2012. In order to achieve our desired certification level of Gold, we must pursue several credits including ones that involve participation from the building’s full-time occupants. We are pleased to invite you to partner with us on this important initiative.

We kindly ask for your participation by encouraging your co-workers to:
  1. Alternative Transportation: continue to use alternative transportation options when commuting to and from work. Please take advantage of the new Smart Commute program and all of its offerings including the Brookfield – First Canadian Place Carpool Zone, the Commuters Challenge in June and bike clinics in the warmer months. There will be more details to follow and be sure to visit www.smartcommute.ca for more information.
  2. Water Conservation: avoid using excess water in the kitchens and washrooms. Report any problems with sinks, faucets or toilets on your floor.
  3. Energy Conservation: conserve energy by asking employees turn off computers, desk lights and all Tenant controlled lighting at the end of the day.
  4. Recycling: make recycling second nature by separating all paper, plastic, cans and bottles, and organics in their appropriate bins.
  5. E-Waste and Batteries: avoid throwing electronic waste and hazardous materials in the garbage. There will be an E-Waste and Battery collection lobby event scheduled during the Performance Period - hold on to your used electronic equipment and batteries.
  6. Smoking: sustain a smoke-free environment by not smoking near doorways, windows, or air intakes. Keep our building’s air clean by staying 7.5 meters (25 feet) away from all openings.
We will also be hosting a series of events to generate awareness and to provide further information relating to Tenant participation. Further communications will follow closer to the dates.

If you have any questions about how you can contribute in the certification process, please do not hesitate to contact the Management Office. For further details regarding the LEED EB:OM program, visit the CaGBC’s website at www.cagbc.org.
